We're leaping for joy over DCAF!
It is
ridiculous that abortion is not accessible in this country. So, to help women
and girls in DC, Virginia, Maryland- and those that have to travel from across
the country to receive services in the DMV- I am mini-golfing for abortion
access in support of the DC Abortion Fund because I believe every woman should
have the right to shape her own life.
Why does DCAF need your help so much? Calling it the DC
abortion fund is a little misleading. You see, DCAF not only helps women who
live in any part of DC, Virginia or Maryland, but it also helps out any woman
who is traveling to DC Virginia or Maryland for their abortion procedure. With
several DC-area clinics offering 2-trimester procedures we get a lot of calls
from women across the country who not only have the stress of raising enough
money for the procedure cost, but also have to fund their travel expenses as
well as take time off work and arrange child care in many instances. By
donating to DCAF you are not only helping women in the District of Columbia, Maryland
and Virginia but women all across the US who need and deserve healthcare with
dignity.

The
DC Abortion Fund is an all-volunteer organization that provides financial
assistance to women and girls in DC, VA, and MD who cannot afford the full cost
of an abortion. In 2012 DCAF disbursed $102,132 to make choice a reality for
over 450 patients in 2012. In 2012 over 2500 women and girls called the
DCAF hotline, averaging about 50 calls/week or 210 calls/month. Some calls were
from women who weren’t even able to pay for rent, food or necessary medications.
Some calls were from teenagers. Some were from married couples that already had
children. Some were from women whose lives were at risk because of the
pregnancy, and even in those cases these women could not get the health care
they needed to protect their lives without the help of DCAF.
That’s
terrible.
I know
this because for the past couple of years I’ve been a volunteer case manager
with DCAF. I speak from experience when I say that by raising money, I am
filling a vital health care gap by helping women pay for abortion care,
emergency contraception, options counseling, and childcare during abortion
procedures, and transportation costs to clinics. I'm supporting our community
