Welcome to our Bowl-a-Thon Game-a-Thon!
GAME OVER anti-choicers!
Location: Shamrock, 4133 S. Carrollton Ave (at Tulane Ave.)
Date: April 18, 2013
Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm
WOW! Great news! We smashed our goal of $5000, and destroyed our new goal of $10,000! At the event, we topped our final goal of $12,500! Please keep giving through our GAT site, and remember that you can donate year-round on Paypal:
The funds we raise will help so many women in our community, and help NOAF break the stigma around abortion. Remember, all donations are tax-deductible, and our all-volunteer organization has almost no overhead.
Who Are We?
The New Orleans Abortion Fund was incorporated September 2012, and is the only abortion fund in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, or Arkansas. Abortion funds like us fill a vital health care gap by helping women get the health care they want and need. We believe that every woman should have the right to shape her own life and the right to care for herself and her family with dignity.
Why a Game-a-Thon?
Like the 100+ abortion funds in the U.S., we wanted to do a bowl-a-thon. After being refused space at local bowling alley because they refused to support our mission of helping people access abortion services regardless of their income, we decided to do an even better event!
So What is a Game-a-Thon?
Our Game-a-Thon is a chance to play pool, ping-pong, darts, and a bunch of arcade games, all while hanging out with local reproductive justice activists, supporters, and friends.
Each team of 3-6 players needs a captain, who registers first. When registering, you have the chance to play under a creative team name; check here for ideas. Then, captains, gather your teams! Your team members will register as part of your fabulously-named team. You all will raise money (don't worry, you'll have support, scripts, and ideas). The money raised goes toward individual and team goals.
What's a good amount to raise?
As much as you can! We suggest $100 per person (the cost of a state-mandated ultrasound and counseling session) and $500 per team (the average cost of an abortion at our partner clinic.)
Whether you're a captain, a participant, a donor, or a fan/supporter, we're excited to have you! The money you raise will have a direct impact on women's lives. Plus, you get to do what New Orleanians do best: come up with puns, dress up (costumes encouraged!), and party hard!
Now let's beat those barriers together!
