That's right friends and fans, it's BOWL-A-THON Time Again!
This year's event is already shaping up to be bigger and more spectacular than ever before! Not only will you be raising lots of money to help women obtain the abortion care they need but we will have fabulous prizes to offer!
Also, if you can't come bowl with us in Portland (or Eugene), you can still help us raise money & compete for prizes - just get a team together, find a bowling alley (or maybe just someone with a Wii) & bowl with us- virtually!
Wait, What the Heck is a Bowl-a-thon?
Essentially, it is a crazy-fun way to raise a lot of money to help low-income women pay for abortions. First, you decide that you're really into having fun. Then you form a team. Find 4-5 of your favorite, fun friends, come up with a name for your team (preferably one that evokes your own personal fabulous sense of fun), register your team here, and then start
fun-d-raising!
Each team starts with a minimum goal of $750. That sounds like a lot, but if you break it down, it's only $125-150/person. Still sounds like a lot, but if you use the tools on this website to ask your friends and family for support, you'll see how quickly you can raise that much.
We're so confident in your ability to raise money, we're going to offer prizes just for trying! Use the tools on this site to earn points to earn prizes! What's more, we're going to give away bowl-a-thon t-shirts to every bowler who raises $300 or more.
Finally, on April 20th, your team comes to the Hollywood Bowl, dressed in your favorite bowling, team-spirited attire (elaborate costuming is encouraged- more prizes available!) and have a fabulous, feminist, fun time!
Why should we raise money for NRO?
We at NRO believe that women should be the ultimate decision-makers regarding their own health care.
We are committed to empowering women and promoting the cause of reproductive justice by eliminating barriers to abortion access, providing opportunities for comprehensive, grassroots sexual and reproductive health education, and supporting access to the full range of reproductive options for all women.
We believe that:
- Without abortion access, the right to choose is meaningless.
- Abortion is a part of basic healthcare. - Restrictions placed on abortion are inherently discriminating to low income women, young women and women of color.
- Supporting all marginalized communities is imperative to achieving social justice.
Are you with us?
Last year, NRO gave over $40,000 to nearly 200 Oregon women to help them pay for an abortion procedure. Bowlers just like you helped us meet the needs of those women. We need your help to continue meeting the funding needs of low-income women.
