Eastern Massachusetts Abortion (EMA) Fund's 3rd Annual Triathlon!

Thursday, April 25th, 2013
5:00pm-9:00pm
at Milky Way in Jamaica Plain

Whether you're a captain or a fan/supporter, we're thrilled to have you! The money you raise will have a direct impact on the lives of our callers.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you? The EMA Fund provides people with financial counseling and with money for their abortions. We negotiate with abortion providers for discounts, and we help women pay for bus or train tickets, childcare, and translation services. We know that if you don’t have money, abortion might as well be illegal. For us, access to abortion is a matter of social justice, reproductive justice, economic justice, fairness, and human rights. The money you raise will help us keep those choices open and will have a direct impact on women's lives.

What is an EMA Triathlon? It's a fun way to raise a lot of money to ensure that the EMA Fund can continue to help women pay for abortions.  Our "Triathlon" includes Wii Bowling, karaoke, and board games. The event also features a raffle with some truly fantastic prizes. Get ready for an evening of awesome.

How do I donate? Click on "Support a Bowler" (in our case, really a "Triathlete") and choose a participant or team to make a donation to and check out their personal fundraising page.  Don't have a specific Triathlete you want to support? You can a) pick anyone, the money's all going to EMA! or b) click "Donate to the Event" to the left and make a general donation.

Will my donation be tax-deductible? Yes! The EMA Fund is a 501(c)3 organization, so all your donations will be tax-deductible.

Can I make or accept an offline donation? Sure! Keep track of any checks or other offline donations with this pledge form.

Can I participate even if I can't come to the event? Yes! While we'd love to have you, donors and even Triathletes aren't required to come to the event. Please don't let your busy schedule or geographic distance keep you from supporting EMA!

The site seems to be geared towards a “Bowl-a-thon.” What’s up with that? Despite our efforts, almost no bowling alley would host the EMA Fund! Some said that they didn't host groups who dealt with "controversial issues;" some refused us because of concerns over threats our group might pose to their "family business;" and one manager at a Cambridge bowling alley refused to host the EMA Fund because "I'm Catholic and I could never support a fundraiser for abortion." This reality is devastating! But it is also reason to charge forth to stand up for the work that we do, and to ensure that women don't get turned away like we were!

We promise that it'll be a fundraiser like no other! We'll be there with you every step of the way--fundraising, giving you helpful tips, encouraging you, and celebrating at a great event together.

There is nothing too small that you can do! Let's make this event a success!

THANK YOU!

Questions? Send them to sarahbeth@emafund.org

P.S. Anyone who donates will get a little confirmation email thanking that person for donating to the “Bowl-a-Thon.” With the above explanation in mind, we weren't able to tailor our receipts to “triathlon” since we’re using a nationally-based site. We’ll still get the donations and appreciate your help.
